Follow the SCC in the CIAC spring sports state playoffs at www.ciacsports.com... Four SCC teams - Amity (Class L boys track & field), Branford (Class L baseball), Fairfield Prep (Class L boys lacrosse) and West Haven (Class LL baseball) won state titles this spring... State runner-ups this spring included: Amity (State Open, boys outdoor track & field; Class L girls tennis) and Hillhouse (Class MM boys track & field).

SCC To Host 15th Year Golf Classic

Hillhouse and Amity Capture Outdoor Track Titles

The Hillhouse girls and Amity boys each captured the SCC outdoor track & field titles... The Academics (103 points) finished ahead of Hand (71) and Amity (63)... The Spartans (118.75 points) placed ahead of Hillhouse (77) and North Haven (65)... Click here for complete results


Cheshire Wins SCC Golf Title

Led by medalist Pat Herlihy (+4, 75), Cheshire captured the 2009 SCC Golf Championship at the New Haven Country Club on May 19... The Rams won their second SCC title - and their first since 1997... SCC Scholar Leader Banquet Held on March 30

The SCC scholar leader banquet was held on Monday, March 30 at Anthony's Ocean View in New Haven... Forty-four scholar leaders were recognized... Click here for event program


It's Academic: Hillhouse is the Best Girls Basketball Team in the State

It's official - the Hillhouse girls basketball team, who won the SCC and Class L titles, finished as the top girls basketball team in the New Haven Register, Hartford Courant and Connecticut SportsWriters Alliance season-ending state polls... Class LL runner-up Career and Class LL quarterfinalist Mercy also were ranked... Congratulations to head coach Catrina Hawley-Stewart  and the Academics!


Hamden Finishes as Top Ice Hockey Team in State

The 2009 SCC regular-season and state Division I champion Hamden ice hockey team finished as the top team in the final New Haven Register and Hartford Courant state rankings... Congratulations to head coach Bill Verneris and the Green Dragons squad... Hamden is one of five SCC teams (Fairfield Prep, Xavier, Division II champion Cheshire, West Haven and Notre Dame) ranked in the Courant's top ten... SCC Arts Exhibition Held at Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven

The annual SCC Arts Exhibition will be held from March 16-20 at the Creative Arts Workshop on Audubon Street in New Haven...

The exhibition features 60 selections of outstanding student-originated visual arts in a variety of media... Each SCC member school had the opportunity to submit up to three works.. A grand opening of the show with refreshments and award presentations was held on Monday, March 16... Click here to see the award winners


Cheshire Wins Division II Ice Hockey Championship

Top-seeded Cheshire scored three unanswered goals in the third period to defeat #3 Branford, 4-2, in the 2009 SCC Division II Ice Hockey Championship Game...  The Rams (17-3-2), who defeated #4 Amity, 3-1, in the semifinals, won their second league title (1999 is the other)... Fairfield Prep Captures SCC Boys Swimming Title

Fairfield Prep won its fifth consecutive SCC boys swimming title with a dominating effort (820 points)... The Jesuits finished ahead of Notre Dame (601 points), Xavier (567) and Amity (556) in the competition, which was held at Yale University's Kiputh Pool... Click here for the boys swimming page


Hillhouse Wins SCC Boys Basketball Championship

Top-seeded Hillhouse defeated #6 Hamden, 55-36, to capture the SCC boys basketball championship... The Academics (22-0) won their fourth overall SCC title and were led by Tournament Most Outstanding Player Jeremy Moore (19 points)... Click here for the game story in the New Haven Register... Hillhouse Captures Fifth SCC Girls Basketball Title

Top-seeded Hillhouse defeated #2 Career, 70-61, in the 2009 SCC Giirls Basketball Championship Game... The Academics, led by freshman Bria Holmes (26 points) and Tournament Most Outstanding Player Andreana Thomas (17 points, 5 assists, 4 steals), outscored the Panthers, 19-11, in the fourth quarter to capture their league record fifth championship ... The game was broadcast by WCTX/MyTV 9 and www.sportingnewsct.com.


Hand Captures SCC Wrestling Title

Hand, behind individual champions Eddie Carroll (119 lbs.), John Jongbloed (135 lbs.) and Brian Onofrio (152 lbs.), captured its second straight (and fourth overall) SCC wrestling title... Hand Wins SCC Gymnastics Title

Hand, behind all-around champion Kimmy Megargee, captured the 2009 SCC gymnastics title... The Tigers (133.7 points) finished ahead of last year's champion Foran (127.8) and Jonathan Law (126.4)... It is Hand's 13th SCC title in 15 years... Click here for results


SCC Indoor Track Champions Crowned

The SCC its boys and girls indoor track championships on Friday, February 6 at the New Haven Athletic Center... Amity captured the boys title (102 points) with Hamden (59 points) placing second... Cheshire and Hillhouse shared the girls title (70 points each) with Branford placing third (51 points)... Click here for complete boys and girls results.


SCC Hosts Cheerleading Competition

The SCC hosted its fourth Cheerleading Competition on Saturday, January 31, at North Haven High School... Eighteen SCC school participated in four different categories – 14-under squad size, 15-over squad size, novice and co-ed... Congratulations to Lyman Hall (Novice), Branford (co-ed), Derby (14-under) and Shelton (15-over) for their first-place finishes... West Haven was also honored with the SCC Spirit Award...  Many thanks to the two event sponsors for the 2009 SCC cheerleading competition - Bird's Eye Sports and Planet Stunt, LLC... Ragone, O'Brien Honored by Walter Camp

Cheshire quarterback Billy Ragone and SCC Commissioner emeritus Bill O'Brien were recognized at the Walter Camp "Breakfast of  Champions" on Saturday, January 16 as part of the 42nd Walter Camp Weekend... Ragone was named the State Player of the Year, while O'Brien received the Lifetime Achievement Award.. Click here for an article in the New Haven Register


SCC Football Banquet Held on January 12

The annual SCC All-Conference Football Banquet was held on Monday, January 12 at Anthony's Ocean View in New Haven. The four division champions (Hamden, Cheshire, Hillhouse and Foran) were recognized along with the 60 members of the 2008 all-conference teams... Special thanks to the three event sponsors - Walter Camp Football Foundation, New Haven Gridiron Club and National Football Foundation - Gene Casey New Haven chapter.

SCC Captains Talk About Role Models in New Haven Register Article

(12-10-08) -- The SCC held its Winter Sports Captains Council on Tuesday, December 9 at the New Haven Athletic Center... Nearly 375 captains from the SCC's 23 member schools were in attendance...
