Career (Girls), Hamden (Boys) Win SCC Indoor Track Titles
Career (girls) and Hamden (boys) each won their first-ever SCC indoor track titles.... The Panthers (81 points) finished ahead of defending champions Cheshire (73) and Hillhouse (51)... SCC Cheerleading Competition Held
The 2010 SCC Cheerleading Competition was held on Saturday, February 6 at North Haven High School... Congratulations to Career (novice division champion), Branford (co-ed division champion), West Haven (14-under division champion) and Shelton (15-over division champion)... In addition, Branford won the SCC Spirit Award.

SCC Unified Sports Basketball Tournament is February 1
Ten league schools - West Haven, Jonathan Law, Lyman Hall, Daniel Hand, Wilbur Cross, East Haven, Hamden, Amity, Cheshire and Sheehan - will participate in the SCC Unifield Sports Basketball Tournament on Monday, February 1 at the New Haven Athletic Center... The tournament starts at 3 p.m.
SCC and SportsCenter of Connecticut Scholar-Athlete of the Month Program in Full Swing

The SCC's partnership with the SportsCenter of Connecticut, which honors the best scholar-athletes each month, is in its fourth year... Click here for the list of December 2009 recipients.

Prep (#1) and Hamden (#2) Play First High School Ice Hockey Game in Quinnipiac's TD Bank Arena
(1-5) -- Two SCC ice hockey teams - and the top teams in the state - #1 Fairfield Prep and #2 Hamden - played the first sanctioned high school game at the TD Bank Arena on the campus of Quinnipiac University... Notre Dame Named "Kelly Award" Winner by Walter Camp Football Foundation
Notre Dame (11-1), the consensus #1 football team in the state, was the recipient of the "Kelly Award" by the Walter Camp Football Foundation... It is the second time that Notre Dame has earned the Kelly Award (1991)... It also marks the seventh time since 1994 that a Southern Connecticut Conference school has earned the Kelly Award (Cheshire 1994 and 1995; Hand 1997, 2004; West Haven 2002; Xavier 2005).. Hail the SCC - ND #1, Cheshire #2 in Final State Football Polls
(Dec. 7) -- The New Haven Register (media), Hartford Courant and New London Day (coaches) announced the results of their final high school football polls and Class L champion Notre Dame (11-1) was ranked first, while Class LL champion Cheshire (11-1) was number-two... Class LL semifinalist Xavier (9-2) was ranked sixth in the Register, 10th in the Courant polls... Click here for the New Haven Register poll and Hartford Courant poll
SCC Football Factoids:
** It is the first time for the SCC to get the top two teams in the final HS football poll... The closest came in 1995 (Cheshire #1, Shelton #3) and 1997 (Hand #1, Cheshire #3).
** The SCC had three teams ranked in top ten... The most SCC teams ranked in the final top ten poll is four in 2003 - Shelton #3, West Haven #4 , Hand #5 and Amity #9.

CIAC Approves New Football Playoff Structure for 2010
(Nov. 19) -- The CIAC Board of Control voted unanimously at its meeting to accept the proposal of the CIAC Football Committee to adapt a new division and playoff structure for the sport of football beginning in the 2010 season.... 2010 SCC Basketball Tournaments Will Be Held at Quinnipiac's TD Bank Arena
The SCC boys' and girls' basketball tournament semifinals and finals will be played at Quinnipiac University's TD Bank Sports Center in 2010... The girls will play Feb. 22 and 23 while the boys will be held March 1 and 2... The quarterfinals will be held at West Haven (girls) and East Haven (boys)... One SCC boys' ice hockey game featuring defending Division I champion Hamden against Fairfield Prep will be held at Quinnipiac on Jan. 5 at 6 p.m... Girls Volleyball: Update (11-7) - Jonathan Law wins the SCC title in five games over #8 Cheshire. Second SCC title for Law.
Boys Soccer: Update (11-6) -- Guilford wins SCC title via penalty kicks over Fairfield Prep... After a 1-1 deadlock in regulation and overtime, the Indians prevailed, 4-2, in the PK round.
Girls Soccer: Update (11-5) -- Hand and Cheshire play to scoreless tie and declared co-champions.
Girls Swimming & Diving: Update (11-4) -- Cheshire wins 16th straight SCC championship... Cheshire's Jen Thompson repeats as SCC diving champion (417.25 points).
Field Hockey: Update (11-2) -- Hand defeated Branford, 5-3, to clinch the SCC regular-season title... The Tigers (10-0) win their third title in last four seasons... There is no SCC postseason tournament in field hockey.
Xavier and Guilford Win State Open Cross Country Titles
(Nov. 6) -- Xavier (boys) and Guilford (girls) captured 2009 CIAC state open cross country titles at Wickham Park in Manchester...Click for boys and girls results... A week ago, the SCC extremely fared well in the state class competitions... On the boys side, Xavier won the Class LL race, while Hamden (2nd) and Cheshire (4th) finished well... On the girls side, Guilford won the Class MM followed closely by Hand (2nd) and Branford (4th).
Xavier and Cheshire Win Cross Country Titles
(Oct. 22) -- Xavier (boys) and Cheshire (girls) won 2009 SCC cross country titles at Hammonasset State Park in Madison... Xavier (63 points) finished ahead of runner-up Hamden (88 points), while Cheshire (64 points) narrowly defeated five-time defending champion Guilford (69)... SCC Hosts Unified Soccer Event
(Oct. 14) -- The SCC hosted an Unified Soccer event at Amity Regional High School... Nine schools were scheduled to participate... Click here for photos from the event.
Five SCC Schools Earn Michaels Cup Achievement Recognition
Five SCC member schools have been honored as Michaels Cup Achievement winners for 2009... Hand (Class L, 1st place) and Sacred Heart Academy (Class SS) each won first place honors, while Cheshire (Class LL) and Branford (Class MM) were recognized with a second place standing... Lastly, Jonathan Law (Class MM) earned third place... The winners were recognized at the CIAC Sportsmanship Conference on September 24.
Eleven SCC Football Teams Will Be Televised on MyTV 9 "Game of the Week" in 2009
Six games involving eleven SCC football teams will be highlighted on MyTV 9's "High School Game of the Week" television package this fall.. Click here for the complete schedule... It's Academic: Hillhouse is the Best Girls Basketball Team in the State
It's official - the Hillhouse girls basketball team, who won the SCC and Class L titles, finished as the top girls basketball team in the New Haven Register, Hartford Courant and Connecticut SportsWriters Alliance season-ending state polls... Class LL runner-up Career and Class LL quarterfinalist Mercy also were ranked... Congratulations to head coach Catrina Hawley-Stewart and the Academics!

The 2009 SCC regular-season and state Division I champion Hamden ice hockey team finished as the top team in the final New Haven Register and Hartford Courant state rankings... Congratulations to head coach Bill Verneris and the Green Dragons squad... Hamden is one of five SCC teams (Fairfield Prep, Xavier, Division II champion Cheshire, West Haven and Notre Dame) ranked in the Courant's top ten... SCC Arts Exhibition Held at Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven
The annual SCC Arts Exhibition will be held from March 16-20 at the Creative Arts Workshop on Audubon Street in New Haven...
The exhibition features 60 selections of outstanding student-originated visual arts in a variety of media... Each SCC member school had the opportunity to submit up to three works.. A grand opening of the show with refreshments and award presentations was held on Monday, March 16... Click here to see the award winners
SCC Hosts Cheerleading Competition
The SCC hosted its fourth Cheerleading Competition on Saturday, January 31, at North Haven High School... Eighteen SCC school participated in four different categories – 14-under squad size, 15-over squad size, novice and co-ed... Congratulations to Lyman Hall (Novice), Branford (co-ed), Derby (14-under) and Shelton (15-over) for their first-place finishes... West Haven was also honored with the SCC Spirit Award...
